Making Decisions

Decision tree

Organizing and understanding the basic decisions to be made in launching a home-built car project can be both daunting and confusing. It may be helpful to think through the broad, fundamental decisions before getting into the hundreds of possible customizations and options.

The decision tree at right outlines the mutually exclusive choices of this build as an example:

  1. vehicle type (1965 AC Cobra replica), read Legacy of the FFR Roadster
  2. primary vendor (Factory Five Racing), review Kit Car Manufacturers
  3. approach (non-donor, all new parts), see Build Objective, Build Budget, and Mk3.1 Specifications
  4. kit configuration (FFR Mk3.1 Complete Kit or Mk3.1 Base Kit), see Vendors and Customizations
  5. wheels (17-inch Halibrand, select wheel/tire vendor), see Understanding Wheels and Tires
  6. suspension (independent rear, IRS standard width kit option), see Rear Suspension
  7. engine (Boss 302, part of Breeze EzePak; also impacts FFR kit engine mount option)
  8. headers (4-into-4 BBK for 302 FFR kit option)
  9. fuel management (electronic fuel injection, Mass-Flo EFI for 302, part of Breeze EzePak)
  10. order (primary vendors: FFR, Breeze, wheels)
