Engine Block Holder

Engine block holder

The first task involving the Ford Racing 302 engine (part of the Breeze EzePak) is to swap out the oil pan. This requires mounting the engine on an engine stand so that it can be rotated 180° for a proper oil pan attachment.

However, other engine sub-assemblies required prior to dropping in the engine should not be performed on the engine stand due to poor balance and stability. Instead, a simple engine block holder fashioned out of scrap lumber provides a stable platform. With the 302 engine resting on the floor, the clutch and transmission can be easily attached.

For the drop-in procedure, the engine is then directly lifted off the engine block holder with an engine hoist.

To make the block holder, cut two 21-inch lengths of 2×10 lumber (actual 2×10 dimension is 1.5 by 9.25 inches) for the main support braces and assemble them using 1/2” plywood strips as shown in the drawing below.

Materials and Plans

  • 2×10 lumber, 22” length (cut in half)
  • 1/2” plywood, 16×11 piece (cut in half)
  • 8 wood screws
