The driver side footbox holds some essential components, including the main Ron Francis fuse box and front harness connections, pedal assembly, master brake cylinders with remote reservoir hoses, and the brake adjustment balance bar. If the footbox top cover is permanently riveted in, access for adjustment and maintenance is significantly limited.
The top cover, therefore, should either be removable, or a new cover lid fabricated. Because the top cover fit is tight and difficult to reach with EFI components mounted on the firewall, the best alternative for this build is an entirely new cover lid.
The surplus footbox front panel (FFR 10904 which comes mounted on the chassis, see also Footbox Panel Assembly section) can be used to cut a new cover. The bend in this panel is already close to the angle required for the new lid.
Attach the entire footbox with clecos. Measure an appropriate access area and cut out this material from the original top panel. Make a matching over-sized top from the surplus FFR 10904 panel.
Mark/drill holes for rivet nuts and install them (or, alternatively, use sheet metal screws). To reduce vibration and rattles, line the edge of the top with a thin sheet of adhesive-backed cork.
